Work, Career & Childcare
This is a real juggling act isn’t it! We’re told we can ‘have it all’ but usually this is easier said than done. Once you have children, your ambitions and outlook on life can change, I know mine certainly did. I had a demanding banking job in London but gave it up to have my son.

Once I was single again I needed some income but I knew I didn’t want go back to the City working long hours and commuting for 2 hours a day. I wanted to work locally, doing something new and exciting and, more importantly working around my son.

Becoming a single mum was a real turning point for me – in some ways I had hit rock bottom but it also have me the opportunity to change direction in life and really think for the first time what I wanted and what I was prepared to do to get there. I decided to retrain in childcare and now some years later I own a chain of nurseries.

It took real dedication but it paid off. Now I meet lots of single mums everyday and am really pleased to be able to help them get back to work by providing quality childcare for their children, which is probably the biggest hurdle when deciding what job to take. Worried about childcare? You will need it, so use it and don’t feel guilty, it’s a really positive experience for children lf you find the right place. Go on, have belief in yourself, no one is there to hold you back now!

Looking for quality childcare?
Remember the film ‘The Hand That Rocks the Cradle’ – scary stuff! Choosing suitable childcare is a huge issue for all mums but is fine if you do your homework – find out about hours, price, places available and most importantly, visit. Look at several options before making your final decision and trust your instincts. There are good tips and lists of childcarers on your local Children’s Information service website.
