Hi! im a student and we'v been asked to design a campaign that could potentially be bought into action by Hampshire Fire Authorities, to raise awareness of fire hazards to hard to reach groups.

One of these groups is single mothers.

Does anyone have any ideas on the kinds of things that could be done to raise awareness? For example if we were to work in conjunction with a shop which ones would be best to reach the audience? Would flyers work or information on the radio, if so what times are best to broadcast?

Childrens safety is such an important issue so any suggestions you have would be great and also potentially save lives.

Thanks x x x

I'm curious to why you are singling out single mums as being different from other mums, we are exactly the same just don't have that extra person there to support us emotionally (or fianically).

Right bugbare over. I will be honest, I'm not a big one for flyers, if you have to single out single parents especially you would need to do it inconjuction with things like gingerbread meetings and organisations especially for single parents. Or how about getting the local fire brigade to do some fund raising for single parents (things like in my village they dress up as santa and come door to door), something where the kids are entertained and you have the chance to show displays and talks. But especially for mums with young kids if you aim at teaching the kids the fire safety you will have the mums attention too.

But... as its fire safety I would think you would be better aim at a more at parents in general. How about fire safety play days at the local nursery's the kids would love a real-life fireman all dressed up to play with and teach them new things.

I can't say radio particularly the only time I get to listen is on my way to work. I still say aim at the kids and mum wont be far behind.

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.
