Pre school fees
Reply Quote

My little girl is due to go to Pre school in the beginning of Jan 2006. I'm worried that I can't afford to send her, she will only be going 2 days a week to start off with. And the only times the Pre school do is 9.30am till 12pm.

There is no way of me getting a job in that short space of time.I'm on benefits like most of us, find paying the bills a struggle, let alone finding an extra £50 a month to send her to school.

Any one in the same boat or any advice given on this matter.

Many thanks

You don't say exactly how old your little girl is but she should definitely get a free place for at least 2.5 hours per day for 5 sessions per week in the term after she turns 3.  Why not give the pre-school a call and ask for advice - don't be intimidated, all us first time mums need to know how the system works.  As far as working is concerned, you'd be amazed how many part-time jobs there are that might fit around your daughter.  If you got a job with longer hours and could claim working tax credits I think you would get a lot of help with childcare costs - try the Citizens Advice Bureau or Childcare Link (the links are on the Professional Help page of this site I think) for advice on benefits.  I know it seems like you are trapped but there is help out there if you know how to find it.

Good luck!
