I will go to the CAB anyway and hope they can help me. My ex boyfriend told me I can't do anything because he doesn't work so he hasn't to give me anything. Besides we are not married so I can't ask him any support, neither financial nor emotional for the baby. Is that possible? I hope this is not true. I will tell you what happens.    Report

Is his name on the birth certificate or does your baby have duel nattionality, both of these would help you. Being unemployed doesn't mean he doesn't have to give you anything, it just means it will be very limited but if you are able to use the CSA and he does get a job he would have to pay about 15% of his wage towards the care of the child, but some men are very tricky and will ensure they don't stay in any job for long to avoid having to pay out. Have you contacted his family directly they may chose to give you the emotional support you are seeking (but they have no obligations either emotionally or financially). Just make sure you are respectful of the father's family's feelings and be prepared that they will also be upset at the situation, and their need to see their grandkids sometimes too. I am not in the UK, but where I am the grandparents do not have any rights to see the kids, which is something that often worries them. Also, they have had children, so with any luck commons sense can prevail in terms of understanding the costs and care issues involved.    Report
