But the family might. Just make sure you are respectful of the father's family's feelings and be prepared that they will also be upset at the situation, and their need to see their grandkids sometimes too. I am not in the UK, but where I am the grandparents do not have any rights to see the kids, which is something that often worries them. Also, they have had children, so with any luck commons sense can prevail in terms of understanding the costs and care issues involved.
