When I was young my dad was very abusive and mentally, physically and sexually abused me. As I grew up I was really screwed up and didn't really have any sort of life went from house to house job to job and drug to drug. Had a hell of a time I aborted 3 kids now pls don't hold that against me I just had no clue about my life was on a downward spiral and didn't have a clue. I met a guy and things started to settle down a bit I felt secure and I got pregnant and life looked good I gave birth on 11th sep 2002 to the most beautiful baby in the world  I fell in love and knew I could do it. Me and my partner split up after he smacked me in the face he couldn't handle being a dad and was jelous of all the attention my lil girl got and in his mind she was taking away from him.   I moved into a domestic violence unit and started again but instead of it being a bad thing my life just started to fit together and was looking good since then I have worked in a call centre and looked after my lil girl she's my best friend and can truely say without her I would proberbly be dead she saved me from myself. She truelly saved my life. Now the future is looking really good I start college in september to do the access to higher education and want to go to uni to do primary teaching. Looking back I don't know where I would be now without her and even though her dad hit me he gave me the most prescious person in the world so out of the bad always comes good one way or another.    Report

I haven't had such a grueling life but was emotionally abused as a child by my mother. My father was the best thing in my life. However, he lost his 18 month battle with cancer and died last year. I took to drinking pretty much every day from the beginning of my Dad's diagnosis to his death just to hide from the pain... until, however, the day that I found out I was pregnant. I am now 17 weeks and knowing from the start that the father would not be there I too will be a single mum. I am scared about the outcome and how I will survive but reading your story and being able to emphasize with you has made me start believing that I can do it to. I think you are an inspiration to someone like me.    Report
