I became a single mum nearly a month ago. I have a 2.5 and a 7mth old. Already i have gone out and got a part-time job and have applied for working and child tax credit. My girls are in a childminder. My question is how do you survive when after paying the childcare you have nothing left to run the house or feed the kids. I don't have a big mortage and the house bills are not that huge but the ends just don't add up. What does one do. I asked income support today and because i work 16 hours i am not intitled to any help from them and because i own the house i would only get help on the interest on the mortage, basically the lady told me your on your own in fact thats what she did say. My ex has a clever accountant and he earns very little by the books and his trust funds (he is from a well off family) are in his mums name so i can't get to. By my owrkings he will only have to pay £20pw for the girls. I ask again how can one survive????
