Teaching

Hi

I started my PGCE when my daughter was 14 months old. At that point I was still with her dad, but that made little difference as I did most of the childcare myself.

I did find the PGCE tough, but mainly because my placements were quite tough and I did not really realise how all-consuming teaching can be. Most people on the course spent their weekends working and that was not an option for me, so I had to work late into the evenings to get it all done.

I am now in my third year teaching and have been a single mum since last May.

Being a single mum and teaching has its advantages and disadvantages. On the plus side, you get to share holidays with your children and can occasionally pick them up from school and you will be able to relate to your students more effectively as a mother with lots of life experience. On the minus side, you will find that you need to work most evenings during term time and you will have to arrange cover work if you are forced to be off work, because your child is sick.

It's not been easy, but I have no regrets about moving from a successful management career into teaching.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Madi

hey

I have been a single mum for two and half years and i have put myself through college and have qualified in childcare i am currently doing my a levels and i really want to go to university and become a teacher but as a single mother who dont work i dont know what benefits are available if any how i go about finding information about it.

and to be honest im really starting to doubt if i will ever get anywhere in life which hurts because im trying to make the best possible life for my children and show you can work and become something you want to in life
